Program: Surgical Technology

State: Tennessee

Disclosure:

MTC’s Surgical Technology program meets the educational requirements for certification in Tennessee. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARCST/SA). Tennessee requires individuals either to have and maintain current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); or to have completed a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program.

State: South Carolina

MTC’s Surgical Technology program meets the educational requirements for certification in South Carolina. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARCST/SA). In South Carolina, a person may not practice surgical technology in a health care facility unless the person has successfully completed an accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains the Surgical Technologist Certification administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or its successor; however, upon completion of an accredited education program for surgical technologists, graduates may practice for up to three months before completing certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or its successor or meets other options in the law.

The government of Puerto Rico does not have any minimum requirements for education and training of surgical technologists. There is also no requirement to be licensed or certified.

MTC’s Surgical Technology program meets the educational requirements for certification in Pennsylvania. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARCST/SA). Pennsylvania requires individuals to graduate from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited surgical technologist program and hold and maintain an accredited surgical technologist certification.

State: Oregon

MTC’s Surgical Technology program meets the educational requirements for certification in Oregon. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARCST/SA). The Oregon surgical technologist law and rules require documentation showing that the person has completed an educational program for surgical technologists accredited by a national accreditation organization approved by the Oregon Health Authority (CAAHEP & ABHES) and that the person holds and maintains a surgical technologist certification issued by a nationally accredited certifying organization for surgical technologists approved by the authority by rule (NBSTSA, NCCA).
