Program: Respiratory Care

MTC’s Associate in Applied Science in Respiratory Care program meets the educational requirements for initial licensure for Respiratory Therapist in Tennessee. An official transcript from MTC showing the AAS.RTT3 degree as conferred must be sent to National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) upon graduation. Applicants must hold credentials as a registered respiratory therapist (RRT) or a certified respiratory therapist (CRT), as granted by the NBRC or its successor organization. MTC’s Associate in Applied Science in Respiratory Care program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (AARC).

Program: Medical Lab Technology

State: Tennessee

MTC’s Associate in Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology program is NAACLS-accredited and therefore meets the educational requirements for national certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Applicants must earn a passing score on the MLT Board of Certification Exam through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) to obtain their national certification. Some states/territories, like Tennessee, require State Licensure in addition to the national Board of Certification exam through ASCP. MTC meets the educational requirements for this State Licensure, but additional paperwork, certification exams, fees, and/or work experience (clinical hours) may be required. Graduates should contact the Tennessee State Licensure Board for the most up-to-date requirements for this State Licensure.

Program: Associate in Arts - Middle School Education

The AA in Early Childhood & Elementary Education and the AA in Middle School Education degree pathways at Midlands Technical College are designed to transfer to the College of Education at the University of South Carolina (USC). Each pathway allows students to complete the first two years of their higher education at MTC and then transfer to USC to complete their final two years including PRAXIS testing and completion of teacher certification requirements. The teacher certification programs at USC are fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and are South Carolina State-approved programs. MTC’s Pharmacy Technician program meets the educational requirements for initial licensure for pharmacy technicians in Tennessee. Licensure required. Certification exam not required.

Program: Physical Therapist Assistant

State: Tennessee

MTC’s Associate in Applied Science Degree for the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program meets the educational requirements for initial licensure for PTA in Tennessee. Applicants must earn a passing score on the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) for PTAs administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (fsbpt). Additionally, individual states may require a jurisprudence exam be passed prior to being licensed in that state. A jurisprudence exam is a test of the state’s specific laws and rules. All licensed physical therapist assistants (PTAs) should be familiar with the state practice act and rules under which they intend and are allowed to work. 

Upon graduation, an official transcript from MTC showing the AAS.PTH3 (Physical Therapist Assistant) degree as conferred must be sent to the individual state licensure board in which a license is being applied for. 

MTC’s Associate in Applied Science Degree for the Physical Therapist Assistant is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Program: Dental Hygiene

State: Tennessee

MTC’s Associate in Applied Science in the Dental Hygiene program meets the educational requirements for initial licensure for a Dental Hygienist in Tennessee. Applicants must earn a passing score on the NBDHE and a clinical board (ADEX or CRDTS).
