Advanced Welder

Overview

The Advanced Welder Program focuses on advanced pipe welding positions. The program is designed for a welding student finishing the Comprehensive Welder Certificate or a welder currently working in the industry and is seeking additional skills to advance their career. Students will be well prepared for employment in the manufacturing and construction industries.

The Advanced Welder Certificate can be completed in 9 weeks. There is an option of a morning, afternoon, and evening track to give students greater flexibility for a better balance between work, family, and training. If you have graduated with a degree in Welding Technology, please email cce@midlandstech.edu to determine if you can be exempt from completing the first (7) courses listed in the training schedule below.

Advanced Pipe Welding

This class will provide extensive practice of three advanced pipe welding situations. Using both the gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) process and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), you will first weld a 2-3/4 X 5/8 carbon pipe, known as a monster coupon, in the 6G fixed positon. Next, you will learn to weld a stainless monster coupon, in the 6G fixed position using the GTAW process, or TIG all the way. Finally, you will weld a stainless and carbon monster coupon in the 6G fixed position using TIG all the way.

Welder

Welders can find work with a variety of industrial, construction, and manufacturing companies. Welders often work in fabrication where the weld is visible and a high quality weld is needed. Welders often work with thicker metal in the manufacturing and construction fields. Welding is also used in repair welding applications on heavy vehicles and equipment.

What’s next after I complete this program?

Individuals who have completed the Advanced Welder Program are building on their core welding skills and can find work with a wide variety of industrial, construction, and manufacturing companies. MIG Spray and Pulsed Spray Transfer processes are being used by an increasing number of manufacturing companies in the Midlands and is a highly sought after skill. Advanced pipe welders will find their skills greatly needed by a wide variety of industrial companies in the Midlands area as well.

Training programs can be completed in a matter of weeks or months, are focused on career training, and provide credentials and certificates needed in the specific fields of study. Coursework does not transfer.
