Community College Business Officers Honor Dr. Ronald L. Rhames
Nov 02, 2023
The Community College Business Officers (CCBO) has renamed its Exemplary Practice Award in honor of Midlands Technical College’s President. The Dr. Ronald L. Rhames Exemplary Practice Award recognizes outstanding, innovative, and collaborative practices in areas such as human resources, finance, technology, and facilities.
The CCBO honored Dr. Rhames in recognition of his 35 years at MTC, two as a student and 33 as an employee. Dr. Rhames is the first graduate of any South Carolina Technical College to become president of a S.C. technical college and the first African American President of MTC. A recipient of the Excellence in Education award from the NAACP Columbia Chapter, he is the sixth president of MTC and previously served as its Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Dr Rhames will retire by June 2024, having served for nine years as the president of Midlands Technical College.
“I am grateful to my CCBO colleagues for honoring me in this manner. Having a prestigious award named after me that honors others for their exemplary service is truly humbling,” said Rhames. “I have worked with the CCBO for many years, including serving as its president, serving on the board of directors, and being a Leadership Academy Dean. In retirement, I will continue to uplift this group in its work to advance student opportunities through community and technical college education.”
CCBO is a national entity that is widely recognized as the premier community college association serving current and future business officers and other professionals. As such, it is the voice of business officers with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
