The Savings Are Real
Choosing MTC can save you thousands compared to other colleges and universities. Plus, you could save more through financial aid and scholarships. Here are some of the funding options available.
- Federal Financial Aid
If choosing an academic program, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This free application is administered by the US Department of Education and uses financial data from a variety of sources to determine your eligibility. Federal financial assistance can include pell grants, work-study programs, or loans.
- SC LIFE Scholarship
The SC LIFE Scholarship covers full tuition for qualifying in-state students. Criteria for the LIFE scholarship will be determined after applying to MTC, being admitted to an eligible program, and submitting high school transcripts showing a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- SC Lottery Tuition Assistance Program
SC's Lottery Tuition Assistance Program (LTAP) provides partial tuition to students attending a SC technical college enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours of an eligible program. Federal and state need-based funds must be awarded prior to LTAP funds and cannot be used in addition to LIFE scholarship recipients.
- South Carolina Workforce & Industrial Needs Scholarship
South Carolina Workforce and Industrial Needs Scholarships (SC WINS) covers any remaining tuition, fee, and required course-related expenses left after applying all other scholarships and grants. Recipients can receive up to $5,000 per academic year after applying all other scholarships or grants.
CriteriaQualifying students must:
- Be a South Carolina resident
- Be enrolled in an eligible program
- Students must complete the required SC WINS Affidavit form
Meet one of the following criteria:
- Be employed,
- Take a financial literacy course offered at the technical college, or
- Complete 100 hours of voluntary time contributing to a nonprofit or public service organization
To apply for an SC Wins scholarship, please complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- MTC Foundation Scholarships
Thanks to the generosity of alumni, individuals, corporations, and organizations in the Midlands, the MTC Foundation offers over $100,000 in scholarship funds each year. Two application periods run throughout the year (spring and fall) to apply for these scholarships.
- QuickJobs Scholarship
Interested in a particular training program? It may be eligible for a QuickJobs scholarship. To see if it qualifies for a scholarship, please complete the form in the need help section above and someone will be happy to walk you through to see if the program qualifies.
Academic vs. Training
Every program at MTC falls under an academic or training program category.
What's the difference between the two?
Academic
Programs of study that award an associate degree, diploma, or academic certificate fall under the academics category. To get started in one of these programs, you will need to apply to the college and complete your Federal Application for Free Student Aid (FAFSA).
Training
Want to enroll in a training certificate program or take a class for fun? These fall under training. There is no need to apply to the college and you can register right from your computer!
