Paramedic

Overview

This Paramedic Academic Certificate includes all of the courses for the Paramedic degree except for the general education courses.

Students will have the opportunity to start a rewarding career as an EMT with just six months of training. The EMT Basic course prepares you to take the National Registry exam. EMTs, also known as First Responders, work in a variety of settings, including county emergency services departments, private ambulance, and transport companies, and hospitals. A great demand exists for EMTs. Entry-level salary is $32,000 with advancement opportunities to a paramedic.

Paramedic – 9-1-1 First Responder

The paramedic responds to 911 emergencies and administers life-saving care to treat and stabilize patients in the field. Paramedics also transport patients to an appropriate level of care via ambulance and act as the primary care provider during transport. A paramedic employed by a 911 service may also work as a field training officer, helping orient new EMTs, paramedics, or students to the 911 environment.

Paramedic – Private Ambulance Service

Paramedics working for private ambulance service will respond to requests for service from customers and facilities, and provide ongoing or stabilizing care to patients for the duration of transport. Critical care, inter-facility, hospital discharges, and scheduled transfers are a primary component of this job.

EMT/Paramedic Instructor

The EMT or Paramedic Instructor provides classroom and lab instruction on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide emergency care to the sick or injured. This opportunity for the experienced provider allows for the instructor to relate classroom material to relevant field experience.

Enter the workforce

Graduates of MTC’s paramedic program are workforce-ready upon completion of the national and state certification requirements. There is a significant workforce demand for paramedics in South Carolina and the Midlands area. Graduates of this program are expected to have a very high placement rate and are educated to meet the current workforce demand by incorporating content on best-practice and local issues.

Complete an Associate Degree in Emergency Medicine

Graduates of MTC’s Paramedic Certificate program are eligible to continue with MTC and obtain an associate degree in Emergency Medical Technology-Paramedic by completing additional general education requirements.
