“I am a clinical social worker, and I credit MTC with providing the foundation for my success. I have a passion for working with non-traditional students, and the things I learned at Midlands Technical College helped me discover that’s what I wanted to do.
In the late 1990s, I entered Midlands Technical College and became the first college student in my family. I worked so hard, and after feeling like I was doing great in my classes, I asked to see my transcript. It turns out I was taking tutorial courses! But those 00- and 100-level classes are what provided the foundation to help me succeed with the rest of my MTC courses, and they were especially useful when I transferred to the University of South Carolina (USC) a few years later.

After graduating from USC with an undergraduate degree in sociology, I then went on to get my master’s degree in social work. But that wasn’t all for me. I then got my second master’s in criminal justice in 2005. My academic career continued when I moved to Washington, D.C. and completed my education specialist (Ed.S.) degree in leadership from Walden University, where I also went on to earn my doctorate of education in 2011.
It was in 2015 that I moved back home to Columbia and became a military family life counselor at Shaw Air Force Base. I love what I do, and I love the people I work with.
I will always remember my professors at MTC. Sometimes I serve as an adjunct professor at two online colleges, and the things I learned at Midlands Technical College are still the same things I teach my students.”
