“After graduating from high school, I decided to join the Marines. As a combat engineer, I was trained to sweep for land mines, disarm mines, and do architectural work. I finished my commitment with the Marines and went to work for a good company, but 5 years in, I needed a change of scenery. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do. One of the bigger draws of Midlands Technical College was that it wasn’t as expensive as the other colleges. The classes are typically smaller than some of the big universities. At MTC, you get more one-on-one time. I’ve been in this program for a year now, and I love it. I look forward to the days I get to go to the hospital for clinicals. I do computed tomography, or CT, rotations now. Every day something new is happening; different patients, different exams, different doctors – it’s great!

When I graduate with my degree in Radiologic Technology, I may take the CT exam and get CT certified. In the fall, I’m going to start an MRI program. I’m going anywhere I want to go and learning everything I can. This is my dream job, honestly. I can see 20-30 years from now still enjoying what I’m doing and regretting having to retire from it."
