Commencement Speaker
The college was pleased to welcome Major General Jason E. Kelly, commander for Fort Jackson, the U.S. Army's main production center for Basic Combat Training. Major General Kelly oversees operations

During his address, Major General Kelly offered the graduates words of affirmation that this is just the beginning of their learning journey and to always seek more.

"Never stop learning. Read something about our world and your chosen profession every day. You will forever be young enough to learn."

Major General Kelly went on to tell the graduates, "Don't take yourself to seriously. Learn to laugh at you. Because laughter is, and always, will be good for the heart and soul. A smile is always priceless, and you've got something good when you generate one all on your own.

Honorary Degree Recipient
During the ceremony, the college conferred an associate degree in humane letters to James L. (Jim) Braun. Braun is chair of the MTC Foundation Board of Trustees and founder of AVANTech. A staunch supporter of the mission of MTC, Bruan embodies the Maverick spirit and endeavors to ensure that students are prepared to Get Anywhere from Here.

"I am always proud to go into the community and tell people what great impact every single one of you [graduates} have in the world," said Braun after accepting his associate degree. "The college has a phenomenal impact. And it thrills me to help raise money to get you an education that allows you to support your community."

Between the smiles, laughter, and lots of selfies, there was a special moment between a mom and daughter. Daliyah McDaniel was able to walk alongside her mom, Edwinda Henderson, as they both received their degrees. McDaniel was awarded an associate in arts while Henderson was awarded an associate in arts in paralegal studies.
