Overview
The Basic Industrial Mechanical Maintenance Program provides foundational training for individuals seeking to begin a career in industrial maintenance. This 312-hour program emphasizes essential skills, safety protocols, and the use of tools and techniques necessary for success in industrial environments. Each of the eight courses build upon the previous, offering a sequential and structured learning pathway that ensures comprehensive understanding and hands-on experience
Upon completing this program, students will be prepared for entry-level industrial maintenance roles or for further training in intermediate-level concepts.

- Attend an information session. Information sessions last approximately two hours and are free to attend.
- Be a South Carolina resident for 12 consecutive months. Applicants will be required to submit documentation for proof of residency (Driver's license, Beginner's permit, or state issued ID).
- Not be in default on any federal student loans and not owe MTC or any other college monies.
- Submit an application. You will need to enter your student ID on the application.
- Scholarship recipients will be in communication with the Program Director responsible for the program for which they applied.
- Some programs require clean SLED background checks and clean drug/alcohol tests.

Safety and Rigging Fundamentals Learn how to work and rig loads safely. This course includes personal protective equipment, how to perform basic maintenance tasks safely and what to do if an accident occurs. It covers the slings, hardware, hoists, and hitches used in rigging operations. Highlights critical safety issues and accepted rigging techniques and practices.

Applied Math This course illustrates how math is used in industrial maintenance. Begin with basic math functions, explains decimal-fraction, conversions, and the metric system. Review basic geometry, ratios and proportions, basic algebra, area, volume, circumference, and tables. Explains right triangle trigonometry and other triangular applications in the trade. Precision Measuring This course covers the concept of measurement starting with rulers and levels. The class includes precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, surface plates, and dial indicators. It explains how to read the various precision measuring instruments. Blueprint Reading The course explains different types of blueprint drawings (mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, structural, plumbing/piping, electrical), and how to interpret them and teaches field sketching. What’s next after I complete this program?
Earn an Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. The Mechanical Engineering Technology program provides students with the opportunity to enter the engineering technology field as a Mechanical Technician or Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) technician.
