Student Assessment
COMPASS

The COMPASS program is a series of computer-based basic skills assessments developed by American College Testing (ACT). The name COMPASS stands for Computer-adapted Placement Assessment and Support Services.

COMPASS measures skills in reading, English, mathematics as well as English as a Second Language. The results allow you and the Midlands Technical College staff to work together to help you succeed in your educational goal. COMPASS scores indicate course placement as the starting point for your educational career, and it may also indicate areas of academic weaknesses.

Although computer-based COMPASS requires very little computer knowledge, tutorials as well as practice tests are available. The estimated total testing time for COMPASS is 3.5 hours and includes a written essay. COMPASS is available at the Airport and Beltline Test Centers, at Batesburg-Leesville Test Center as well as Fort Jackson.
