The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple. ~S. Gudder
The Mathematics Department at MTC is committed to providing quality mathematics instruction that will prepare students to be successful in completing a two-year degree from MTC or a four-year degree from a senior college or university.
We offer college transfer courses in College Algebra (MAT 110), College Trigonometry (MAT 111), Probability and Statistics (MAT 120), Finite College Mathematics (MAT 122), Elementary Calculus (MAT 130), Analytic Geometry and Calculus I (MAT 140), Analytic Geometry and Calculus II (MAT 141), Advanced Statistics (MAT 220), Analytic Geometry and Calculus III (MAT 240), Differential Equations (MAT 242), Elementary Mathematics (MAT 250)* and Elementary Mathematics II (MAT 251). In addition to our college transfer offerings, we offer preparatory class in algebra: Beginning Algebra (MAT 101) and Intermediate Algebra (MAT 102).
Currently, we participate in SCAMP (South Carolina Alliance for Minority Participation), a grant by the National Science Foundation. This grant provides support for qualified students seriously considering a four-year degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or one of the natural Sciences (excluding Biology). In addition, we sponsor other activities to assist SCAMP students in reaching their desired goal.
Information on placement into MTC's mathematics courses, how our courses are sequenced, mathematics requirements at MTC by program of study, and how our courses transfer to four year institutions is available at the following links.
