Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society

Let me first say that, in high school, I would have never imagined that I could be a member of an Honor Society. I would never have even been eligible for such a distinction. Recently, however, not only was I inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, but I was elected president of the Midlands Technical College chapter of this prestigious organization, Alpha Eta Kappa.

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is the honor society of the two-year college. Focusing on honorship, scholarship, and leadership, the hallmarks of the society, Phi Theta Kappa strives to enrich and reward the academic aspirations of its members. I have found that membership participation is the perfect way to challenge myself as a student, while giving back to both the college and the community.

I have a wonderful team of advisors and officers, all working so hard to plan for this year. We spend hours maneuvering events around a calendar, sending out countless emails and making complicated “touch-base” phone calls, and endless navigation throughout the International website. Thus far, we have built a website, separate from the MTC website, planned events involving e-cycling in collaboration with Keep America Beautiful, and worked on strategies for corporate sponsorship, as we have little to no funds for our programming.

This year, I’d like to see a marked increase in membership and participation, as well as achievement as a Five-Star Chapter. I believe that this outstanding team, with hard work and dedication at the forefront, can reach our destination.
